Catalonia Revisited
We have had several holidays in Catalonia the beautiful North East corner of Spain. The region and its leaders are in a struggle for independence from greater Spain. This struggle has always been visible while touring round its villages, towns and cities. We saw a few signs dotted around the main towns, often in English like this one in 2014.
On our most recent visit this year, this movement is more visible and, a reasonable assumption – more popular. More houses fly the Catalan flag, or a twisted ribbon insignia (much like the Scottish National Party’s emblem). Another campaign similarity with Scotland are signs that say “Si” or “Yes”. It often feels like a shared understanding exists between the supporters in each country.
This year these signs have grown in size, number and sharper messaging.
